Jeff Hazard (aka “Captain Charisma,” aka “Big Daddy”) has been a fan of radio for a long, long time; even longer than Uncle Ron!

Jeff recalls years ago with fondness as a kid sitting at the kitchen table in his suburban Detroit home listening to AM 800 CKLW on his little white handheld transistor radio. “CK” was the 50,000-watt “Big 8,” a literal blowtorch whose screaming boss jocks belted out titles of hit tune after hit tune, with generous portions of oldies thrown in for good measure. With all that energy oozing from a tiny 2-inch speaker, it was easy to understand why the kid was hooked.

Jeff adds, “I was exposed to some great music: Bob Seger, Credence Clearwater Revival, Paul Revere and The Raiders.”

Another great moment that sticks with him was an invite to tour the facilities of Detroit’s legendary WLLZ, a classic rocker with call letters that could have stood for “We Love Led Zeppelin.” At that time, Jeff was thinking perhaps a career in radio was ahead of him. I just loved the creativity that was at one time a major part of being a broadcaster.”

While attending Wayne State University in Detroit, he signed on with the student radio station there, WAYN, a carrier-current AM station that eventually got heard from a transmitter on top of the Helen Deroy Apartments in the middle of campus. He was a member of the famed “Metal Musik Militia” and did his best to entertain and play great rock and roll music.

A spur-of-the-moment invite to contribute to “Motor City Static” from Ron Wittebols at a December, 2010 WAYN radio reunion sparked the desire to get back into it. Says Jeff, “I miss the camaraderie, the music, the feeling of being a best friend to so many listeners.”

Jeff currently resides in a suburb of Detroit, where he is a proud father to 2 gifted teenagers. He is an acting account manager for a civil engineering and surveying firm and serves as council president for ZION UCC in Mt. Clemens.

Jeff's first big concert was Rush on the “Moving Pictures” tour.
